PLAC Test (LP-PLA2)

About this test

Most people who have heart attacks or strokes have no warning signals so it is important to assess your risk factors by as many means possible. While testing for cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood can identify some risk factors, it is certainly the case that many people who have "normal" levels of cholesterol go on to suffer a heart attack or stroke. By testing for enzyme Lp-PLA2 you can build a better picture of whether there is plaque build-up on your arteries which raises your risk of a cardiovascular event.

A raised PLAC test result calls for more aggressive preventative treatment and may encourage individuals to stick to recommended lifestyle changes.

Who is this test for?
