What are
liproproteins?

Lipoproteins are particles that are responsible for transporting fat molecules (including cholesterol and triglycerides) in your blood. The size and shape of lipoprotein particles change as they circulate in the blood - as they take on and release different fat molecules.

What is an
LDL subfractions test?

Our test separates LDL particles into distinct groups (sub-fractions) based on their size and density. The smaller and denser particles are thought to be better able to penetrate the walls of blood vessels, resulting in a build-up of atheroma in the walls of the vessel. People who predominantly have small dense particles are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease compared to people who predominantly have lighter and larger LDL particles.

What can I learn
from this test?

This is not a diagnostic test but may help indicate a higher risk for cardiovascular disease in the future.

LDL - 7 subfractions This test will report on the levels of LDL types 1 and 2 which are the larger LDL particles, and LDL types 3 through 7 which are the smaller denser particles that are more strongly associated with atheroma formation.
