NT Pro BNP

NT-proBNP (N-terminal pro b-type natriuretic peptide) is a hormone released by the heart when it's under strain. Your heart produces higher levels of this marker when it's working harder than normal to pump blood around your body. This test is primarily used to help assess heart function and can be particularly useful in identifying heart failure or monitoring existing heart conditions. Elevated levels suggest your heart is under stress, though levels can also be raised by other factors including kidney disease and advancing age.
