What is insulin-like growth factor 1?
Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), also known as somatomedin C, is a hormone which helps to control how rapidly your body's cells grow and reproduce.
What causes elevated IGF-1?
Although a high level of IGF-1 is necessary for growth in children, high IGF-1 in adults is associated with the reproduction of cancer cells and the ageing process. There is a link between high IGF-1 levels and high protein intake.
Why take an IGF-1 blood test?
IGF-1 blood tests help diagnose growth abnormalities and evaluate pituitary function. However, you may want a blood test to measure your IGF-1 if you are about to start a programme of intermittent fasting or if you have already been intermittent fasting and would like to assess the effect it has had.
How to prepare for your test?
Prepare for your Insulin Like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) Blood Test by following these instructions. Do not take biotin supplements for two days before this test, discuss this with your doctor if it is prescribed.
