What is a Macroprolactin Blood Test?
Our Macroprolactin Blood Test measures both prolactin and macroprolactin levels in your blood and does not distinguish between them.
What is macroprolactin?
Macroprolactin is a biologically inactive form of prolactin found in a small proportion of people. It is bound to IgG antibodies.
Why take a macroprolactin blood test?
Our test can help to investigate elevated levels of prolactin in your blood. With this test, you can see if elevated prolactin levels are caused by high macroprolactin (which would have no impact on fertility, milk production, or the menstrual cycle). Macroproprolactin is estimated to be responsible for around 15% of all elevated prolactin cases.
