Hepatitis B PCR Hepatitis B is a virus which causes inflammation of the liver cells (hepatocytes). It is transmitted by sex, or by blood to blood contact between people, such as via a needlestick injury. The infection may be cleared by the body's immune system, or it can persist and become chronic, meaning the individual is at risk of infecting other people.
