Insulin

About this test

Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas in response to the food that we eat.

One of its main roles is to remove sugar from the blood and store it in the cells for future energy use.  Raised insulin levels can be a sign of insulin resistance which occurs when the cells fail to respond to the normal actions of insulin. Insulin resistance often remains undetected but can be a sign of type 2 diabetes.

Important Information

Our doctors will interpret your results based on the information you have provided, but will not diagnose, consult or provide any treatment. You will be advised to see your doctor for any necessary follow-up action.

Tests Included

Diabetes

Insulin is an important metabolic hormone. Made in your pancreas, insulin is produced after you have eaten in order to move the sugar from your blood into your cells for future energy use. If we eat too much sugar and starchy foods, our bodies are flooded with insulin and over time our cells become resistant to the effects of insulin, leaving high levels of sugar and insulin in our bloodstreams.

Raised insulin means that you are becoming insulin resistant which is a pre-diabetic condition.

Finger-prick blood sample collection kit

We will send you your Insulin finger-prick blood test sample collection kit which contains everything you need to take your blood sample in the comfort of your own home. If you are unsure about completing a finger-prick blood sample collection you will have the opportunity to select a clinic-based venous blood sample option during the checkout process.
