WHY BUY A HORMONE BLOOD TEST?

Hormones are responsible for regulating many of the body’s systems and play a key role in metabolism, sexual function, mood, and fertility. Some hormones naturally fluctuate throughout your life, while others may be responsible for symptoms such as feeling tired (thyroid), low libido (male and female hormones), or fertility.

A private blood test is a quick and easy way of finding out your hormone levels to see whether they are contributing to your symptoms. We have a mixture of finger-prick and venous blood tests, which you can post directly to the lab. Your results will be uploaded to your online dashboard with comments from our doctors.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF HORMONE BLOOD TESTS?

The right test for you will depend on your reason for taking the test. Have a look at the hormone tests below, or visit one of our other related buying guides: Male Hormone Tests, Fertility Tests, Thyroid Tests, and PCOS.

1. Female Hormone Blood Test

  • Uncover whether a hormonal imbalance could be affecting your fertility.

3. Menopause Blood Test

Our home Menopause Blood Test measures levels of key hormones, such as FSH, LH, and oestradiol. Levels of FSH rise in women as egg production declines, so it is helpful to assess the likelihood of whether you are going through the menopause.

Why take this test?

  • Check your menopausal hormone status.
  • See whether a thyroid condition is responsible for your symptoms. Investigate symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, and erratic periods.

4. Male Hormone Blood Test

If you’re looking for a comprehensive overview of your key male hormones, this is the test for you. It includes LH, FSH, oestradiol, prolactin, total testosterone, free testosterone, and DHEA-S levels.

Why take this test?

  • Get a thorough breakdown of important male hormones.
  • Find out your free testosterone (FT) and total testosterone (TT) levels.
  • Investigate symptoms such as low libido, erectile dysfunction, and reduced muscle mass.

5. Testosterone Blood Tests

Testosterone is a sex hormone that is essential for sex drive, muscle mass, fertility, and mood. We offer a range of testosterone tests, as well as it being included in some of our hormone profiles, Advanced Well Woman, and Advanced Well Man Blood Tests.

Here’s a breakdown:

  • Testosterone Blood Test – this finger-prick blood test measures the total level of testosterone in your blood to see whether it’s within the normal range for you.
  • Free Testosterone Blood Testthis test measures your total testosterone, albumin, and SHBG to give a calculation of the amount of free testosterone available for use by the cells. This can give more information than a total testosterone blood test.
  • Advanced TRT (Testosterone Replacement Therapy) Blood Testif you’re going through TRT treatment, monitoring your testosterone levels can help you to limit and manage unwanted side effects. Helping you to stay on top of whether your testosterone levels fall outside of the normal range.

How to take your sample

Most of these tests can be taken as a simple finger-prick sample at home, except for our advanced tests and Ultimate Performance Blood Test, which involve blood being taken from a vein.

There are three simple steps to your at-home blood test:

  1. Collect sample: We send you our easy-to-use kit to collect your blood sample.
  2. Post sample: Post your sample to our lab in the prepaid envelope provided.
  3. View results: View results securely in your online dashboard.
